Milton Keynes transformation project

Creating spaces that support recovery

Our patients often come to us at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives, and the environment around them can make a real difference. Calm, welcoming spaces help ease stress, promote comfort, and support recovery.

With additional investment, our physical environments have the potential to become even more comfortable, engaging and therapeutic for patients.

With your support, we aim to transform three of our mental health units – the Campbell Centre, TOPAS Older People’s Services, and Cherrywood Rehabilitation Centre.

Learning from lived experience

Claire knows first-hand how important surroundings can be during a mental health admission. She found her stay at the Campbell Centre welcoming and supportive, and believes that small environmental changes could further enhance the patient experience.

"I remember how calming it felt to see artwork in communal areas. Expanding this throughout the wards, alongside a more consistent use of soft colours, and artwork could help create an environment that feels less clinical and more homely and therapeutic"

Turning experience into action

Luke’s experience as an inpatient in Milton Keynes motivated him to improve the environment for others.

Having already raised £3,000 for the Campbell Centre, he is now fundraising again to help create spaces that are more engaging, supportive and hopeful.

“Having been in the Campbell Centre, I know how even small improvements can really help. Looking back, I know they would have made my own recovery feel easier.”
