Gill, Interim Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, is preparing to take on a skydive in support of CNWL NHS Health Charity. Although the challenge is well outside her comfort zone, she hopes to raise funds that will benefit patients, staff and services across the Trust.
Taking the leap
For Gill, signing up for a skydive is about more than just raising money. It's also about facing her fears.
Last year, she took part in the charity's firewalk challenge, an experience that showed her that stepping outside her comfort zone can be incredibly rewarding. Now, despite being terrified of heights, she's preparing to take on an even bigger challenge.
Gill said: "As I've got older, I've realised life is too short to keep putting things off. So when the opportunity came along, I decided it was time to take another leap outside my comfort zone, tick something off my bucket list and raise money for a fantastic cause."
While she's excited about the challenge, there is one part she's particularly nervous about.
"Definitely the bit where someone opens the plane door and expects me to jump out of it! I suspect every instinct in my body will be telling me not to do it."
Despite her fears, Gill is looking forward to the sense of achievement she hopes will come afterwards, describing the skydive as an experience she'll never forget.
"You don't have to be fearless. You just have to be willing to give it a try."
Supporting CNWL NHS Health Charity
As a CNWL colleague, Gill sees first-hand the impact that compassionate, high-quality care can have on people experiencing mental and physical health challenges. She is proud to support a charity that helps fund projects and initiatives that enhance patient care, support staff wellbeing and help services innovate and grow.
Taking on the skydive gives her the opportunity to challenge herself while raising money for a cause that is close to her heart.
Gill's advice for future fundraisers
Gill hopes her story encourages others to take on a challenge they never thought possible.
"You'll probably never feel completely ready, and you'll almost certainly be nervous, but that's often a sign that it's worth doing."
"Fundraising challenges give you the chance to do something you never thought possible while supporting a cause that matters. You don't have to be fearless. You just have to be willing to give it a try."
